“Two new works of caustic sound investigations from Jacob Winans. Textural obliteration and amplified apathy, ripping through the frequency spectrum from ear to ear. Sheets of static wash are crystallized, battered, torn apart, compressed back together, folded, and punctured to create incisions in the fabric of a jaded reality. Teases of life and the sounds of familiarity are exhibited then rejected, leaving as quickly as they came in. A sense of brooding chastity and imminent danger, like keeping a beast locked up in a makeshift cage made of molding particle board.

Sounds of absolutely no distinguishable source or origin, completely removed from context of any sort, contrast and collide with the physical sounds of fervent struggle, pitted against one another to exist in a vacuum, born from nothing. We hear a violent and mechanical reorganization of matter, rebuilt into a grotesque new organism, hissing and seething, waiting patiently to inevitably explode into a jagged, staggering arrhythmia. Bullet holes in thin air carved with sharpened digital serrations. The sensation when you finally lift the blinds up, push aside the blackness and find yourself surrounded by a wash of sunlit dust particles and cigarette smoke, only to abruptly keel over backwards through a hundred panes of glass.

A new breed of cut-up harsh noise and concréte sound assembly from the disregarded corners of Western Massachusetts.”
