Field recordings of a diluted truth and of purity, in the mode of musique concrete. Dilution of memonies over time, of ecological diversity, and our new soundscaipe. Place defined by, a back garden, a family story, a school, a middle school field trip. Not a disintegration, a dilution which is weaker in purity and experience but not value.

Field Dilutions: Place shuns pristine field recordings of rain forests and beaches- they don't exist. Field dilutions are musique concrete in the 21st century where mobile phones and small microphones do the capturing. Rather than splicing tape in creative ways for the effect of altering reality, the reality is that our environment is already alltered. AC noises and the low-frequency hum of distant motorways are the omnipresent background insects of our world of white and brown noise.
This is the sound of our place.

Stumblling toward our future, rhythms are irregular and compound. Multiples of 4 are sparse in favor of limping rhythms that respond to the pulse of a diluted reality. Natural sounds and human memory are captured in repeating loops that represent a world out of balance and celebrate fleeting moments of coincidence and beauty ... sounds that otherwise go unnoticed. This work neither accepts nor celebrates the new s,oundscape we are creating. Field Dilutions: Place seeks to engage in the sound of our place by collecting data, digging into the background hum, highlighting moments of beauty, and exploring our ability to remember, translate, and process our changing place.
